Present status of fusion researches in USA, (1). Status of fusion program at Oak Ridge National Laboratory

Description

The nuclear fusion research in Oak Ridge National Laboratory has made important contribution in the synthetic research combining the theory, experiment, technical development and research program and the coordination of the participation of private enterprises. The ORMAK is one of the tokamaks with which neutral beam injection heating was attempted. The impurity study experiment setup A was used for the research of the containment of plasma by resistance heating only and of the treatment of impurities since 1977, and modified to the ISX-B with 1.8 MW NBI for the purpose of the research on high beta plasma in 1978. At present, the Advanced Toroidal Facility 1 is designed on the basis of stellarator system. It is intended to find the method of optimum transport characteristics in the steady operation and high beta by toroidal field containment. The research on the containment of Elmo bumpy torus type, the development of neutral beam injection, pellet supply and burning system and superconducting magnets, and the research on the design of nuclear fusion reactors are reported. 米国オークリッジ国立研究所における核融合研究は、理論、実験、技術開発、研究計画を連繋する総合的な研究ならびに民間企業参画の調整といった幅広い分野において重要な貢献を行なってきた。これらの研究内容を紹介するために、本稿では簡潔に、研究所におけるプログラムの展望および目的について、以下のいくつかの分野、すなわちトカマク·ステラレータ閉じ込め(ISX-BとATF-1); EBT閉じ込め(EBT-S); 技術開発(中性粒子入射装置、ペレット給燃、超電導磁石); 最新炉設計(核融合工学設計センター)における最近の成果について報告する。 (著者)
