Report of 23rd actual status survey of atomic energy industry in Japan

Description

The Japanese economy in fiscal 1981 remained at low real growth rate of 2.7 % because the recovery of domestic demand was stagnant and export turned to slow-down in the latter half. The primary energy supply decreased by 2.8 % due to the stagnation of the industries consuming much energy and energy conservation. The demand of electric power increased by 1.8 %, and the nuclear power generated increased by 6.3 %. The atomic energy industry in Japan entered into a stable orbit in 1981 because the Power Source Development Coordination Council approved three nuclear power plants and a nuclear power station started the construction. In the actual status survey this time, the outlay of electric power business and the volume of business of trading companies decreased, on the other hand, the turnover and outlay of mining and industry increased conspicuously, exceeding one trillion yen for the first time. The total outlay related to atomic energy exceeded two trillion yen for the first time. The cost of nuclear fuel remained same as the previous year, but the repair cost increased rapidly. The export related to atomic energy amounted to 24 billion yen, 13 % increase. The investment of mining and manufacturing industry into production facilities was 47.5 billion yen, 58 % increase.
