Description
One possible origin of the anomalous thermal expansion of Al2O3-15 vol% (Zr0/sub.5Hf0/sub.5)O2 - diffusional phase separation on heating to a ZrO2-rich t phase and a HfO2-rich m phase - was investigated. STEM, EDS, and TEM techniques showed that virtually all particles were homogeneous and that such diffusional phase separation cannot explain the anomalous result
