Intergranular SCC of Alloy 600 in primary side PWR environments

  • 1. The Ohio State Univ., Columbus

Description

Initial experiments on intergranular stress corrosion cracking of Alloy 600 in a solution of H3BO3 + LiOH, simulating primary water environments, are described. Slow strain rate tests (7.3 x 10-7/s) were conducted to evaluate the role of hydrogen present in the environment or generated by the corrosion reaction. Tests were run in a specially designed high pressure recirculating loop at 3000C. Galvanostatic charging was used to promote the entry of hydrogen into the alloy
