Early Treatment by Cystamine, Vitamin C and their Combination for Restoration of certain Disturbed blood Hormone Levels in irradiated Rats

Description
Early treatment by cystamine, vitamin C or their combination for the restoration of certain disturbed blood hormone levels, has been studied 24 hours after whole body Y-irradiation (6.5 Gy). Investigations have been conducted for assessing serum levels of thyroid hormones (triiodothyronine, T 3 and thyroxine, T 4 ), insulin as well as testosterone. Data obtained in this study revealed that alterations in hormonal response have been observed 24 hour following radiation exposure at 6.5 Gy. Early treatment of rats irradiated at 6.5 Gy, has been undertaken using tripple doses of cystamine (i.p. injection of 50 mg/Kg) or vitamin C(i.p. injection of 100 mg/Kg) or their combination at 8 hours intervals. The results showed a good means for early treatment of the disturbed hormonal levels induced by y- irradiation. Nevertheless, vitamin C gave a satisfactory curative effect on thyroid hormones than did cystamine whereas, combination of both agents was found to be superior in regulating the disturbed hormonal alteration as compared with either agents alone. This effect was explained in the light of the presumed different mechanisms of their actions
