The use of [F-18]4-fluorobenzyl iodide as a prosthetic group for introducing F-18 into pharmacologically active molecules: N-alkylation of amines and amides

Description

Fluorine-18 labelled 4-fluorobenzyl iodide (FBI) has been synthesized in a three-step sequence beginning with fluorine-18 displacement of the nitro group of 4-nitrobenzaldehyde. Reduction of the aldehyde, followed by treatment with hydriodic acid, gave FBI in 50-80% yield. FBI was subsequently used in a number of N-alkylations of amines and amides
