Structure of B10H11- anion
- 1. AN SSSR, Moscow (USSR). Inst. Obshchej i Neorganicheskoj Khimii
Description
X-Ray structural investigation of Ph4PB10H11 (1) and Ph3EtPB10H11 (2) compounds was conducted. Crystals of 1 are tetragonal: a=b=13.263(3), c=7.505(1) A, Z=2; crystals of 2 are monoclinic: a=11.758(3), b=15.214(4), c=15.417(3)A, γ=67.06(2) deg, Z=4. In both compounds the 'additional' eleventh hydrogen atom is disordered with respect to boric frame of B10H11- anion. The structure of B10H11- anion was determined. It is characterized by the presence of one tetragonal face with 2.34 and 2.38 A diagonals. Therefore, protonation of B10H102- anion, leading to formation of B10H11- anion, is accompanied by the break of one B-B bond and occurence of tetragonal face
