Searching for the top at UA2
Description
The projects conceived for searching the quark top, predicted by the Standard Model, are described. The required existence of the quark top from the Standard Model and its production from proton-antiproton collisions are reviewed. The UA2 experimental device is described. The method applied for the search of the top is explained. The analysis of the UA2 data does not allow to conclude the existence of the top. However, the low mass limit of 69 GeV/C2 can be established for the top mass. The results of the analysis of the W decays into supersymmetric particles are included

Dans ce rapport, nous decrivons la recherche d'une particule predite par le Modele Standard et qui n'a pas encore ete mise en evidence: le quark top. Dans une premiere partie, nous rappellerons brievement le cadre du Modele Standard et la necessite du quark top. Nous indiquerons egalement les modes eventuels de production du top dans les collisions protons-antiprotons. Dans la seconde partie, nous decrirons l'experience UA2', qui a ete utilisee pour rechercher le top dans des collisions protons-antiprotons a √s = 630 GeV. Enfin, dans la troisieme partie, nous exposerons la methode utilisee pour chercher le top, nous montrerons que les donnees accumulees par UA2 ne donnent pas d'evidence pour un signal de top et permettent par consequent d'obtenir une limite inferieure sur sa masse mtop > 69 GeV/c2. Nous exposerons egalement les resultats d'une analyse assez proche sur la recherche de desintegrations de W en particules supersymetriques dans le dernier chapitreFiles
