Description
Ballooning-instability boundaries are analytically calculated for self-consistent tokamak equilibria whose cross-sections are circular in the neighbourhood of the magnetic axis. Marginal stability curves, which represent necessary stability conditions for these equilibria, are given in the form poloidal beta versus shear, these two quantities being evaluated on the magnetic axis.
