The role of explantat in induction in vitro mutations and formation of transgenic plants in chrysanthemum (Dendranthema grandiflora Tzvelev)
Description
During the last 20 years, many papers have been published on a possibility of in vitro chrysanthemum regeneration from different explants. Meristematic explants appeared to be of little use in mutation induction. They are used now only for production of chrysanthemum stock plants and cuttings. A new proposition is mutation induction through irradiation of non-meristematic explants (leaves, ray or liguate florets, stem or peduncle segments, cell suspension, etc.). These explants produce adventitious shoots or somatic embryos from single cells and develop into non-chimeric plants built of genetically homogeneous tissues. Adventitious shoot techniques is also applied in formation of transgenic chrysanthemum plants. (author)
