Effects of deterministic chaos on the forced oscillations of a magnetic liquid drop

Creators

Description

Interesting possibilities for time observation of various self-adjustment processes arise in forced oscillations of a magnetic liquid drop in alternating fields. The characteristic properties of the nonlinear magnetic liquid drop oscillation in alternating fields have been practically uninvestigated. In the present work it is shown that the nonlinear oscillations of a magnetic drop in alternating fields are characterized by diverse effects, among them also the regime of the chaotic oscillations which consists of the appearance over the oscillation background of a spontaneous drop rotation with a randomly changing direction. To illustrate some features of the nonlinear oscillation regimes, forced oscillations are considered of the transverse cross section of a magnetic liquid cylinder in an alternating magnetic field perpendicular to the cylinder axis. 14 refs., 6 figs
