Radiation treatment of sewage sludge in order of its utilization
Description
The investigations on radiation treatment of surplus active sludge from waste biological treatment plants and its mixtures with raw sludges of industrial-domestic sewage to optimize treatment conditions for further utilization of sludges as fertilizers are carried out. The irradiation has been performed using 60Co γ-source as well as electron linear accelerator. The radiation dose effect on sedimentation, disperse composition, filterability, disinfection and deodorization degree of sludges, toxic material and ferbilization elements content has been studied. It is shown that the ionizing radiation treated sludges are safe in respect to public health the composition and properties ensure the possibility of their utilization as a valuable mineral-organic fertilizer.
