Certain aspects of the prediction of ground water contamination with radionuclides due to the Chernobyl accident

Description

Rapid prediction of the ground water contamination was carried out to substantiate measures providing safe water supply from ground water in the Chernobyl' NPP affected zones. Horizons and water intake of the ground water which was used for industrial-drinking water supply were determined where the water quality deterioration could take place as a result of radionuclide contamination. Estimation of the hydrogeological well parameters permitted to plot the predictive maps for certain period of time, maps of contamination risk degree for the Ukrainian territory and to determine the most hazardous region
