Development of corrosion resistant Ni-base alloys at KAERI

Description
Recently alloy 690 is taking over alloy 600 for steam generator U-tubes in nuclear power plants. Although alloy 690 has showed its superior corrosion resistance to alloy 600, it is not believed to be completely immune to the steam generator environments. Among various attempts to improve alloy 690, boron modified alloy 690 is described. Boron modification was done in VIM with TiB2 and specimens were prepared through hot and cold rolling. Characterizations including corrosion test was done after solution annealing at various temperatures. Some improvements of corrosion resistance with small addition of boron was detected. AEM analysis of precipitates from extracted replica showed two types of precipitates. In addition, boron distribution in solidified ingots, hot, and cold rolled samples were revealed by neutron induced radiography. (author)
