Investigation into physicochemical properties of trivalent metal molybdates and their activity in propylene-and butene-1 oxidation

Description
The normal chromium, aluminium, iron, indium, lanthanum, cerium, gallium, and bismuth molybdates have been synthetized. Results are presented of thermographic, X-ray and infrared spectroscopic studies of the molybdates. A correlation has been established between some of the physico-chemical and catalytic properties of the molybdates. Data are given on the activity of the catalysts under study in terms of the specific formation rates for the propylene and butene-1 oxidation products at various temperatures. It has been found that the highest total activity is characheristic of the Bi, Fe, Cr, Ga molybdates, and the lowest activity-the molybdates whose structure differs from that of other trivalent metal molybdates. According to the activity in the reaction of the olefine deep oxidation, the molybdates can be arranged in the following series : Fe>Ga>Cr approximately Bi>In>Al>La>Ce. Relation has been found between the molybdate activity and the position of the infrared absorption band of a molybdenum-oxygen bonding
