Retrospective survey of the clinical significance of cytosolic oestrogen receptor status in 287 patients with primary breast cancer

  • 1. University of the Witwatersrand, Johannesburg (South Africa)

Description

Premenopausal white patients with breast cancer had significantly lower levels of cytosolic oestrogen receptor (ER) (30,6 fmol/mg protein) than postmenopausal breast cancer patients (83,1 fmol/mg protein). The difference in the proportion of ER-positive tumours in the two subsets was not significant. A 4-year follow-up indicated that both pre- and postmenopausal women with ER-positive tumours have a lower risk of early tumour recurrence
