Heavy ion reaction studies with exotic beams using Hirfl-Ribll facility

Description

Elastic scattering is an ideal tool to study the information of the exotic structure and reaction mechanism of the weakly bound nuclei. A great deal of elastic scattering experiments has been performed for neutron halo nuclei, such as 6He, 11Li and 11Be. However, elastic scattering data for proton halo nuclei above the Coulomb barrier are still scarce owing to the extreme difficulties to get reasonably intense beams. Recently, some of the experimental and theoretical works have appeared for proton rich nuclei in the last few years. 8B, 13O and 12N, with small separation energies, are good candidates of proton halo nuclei. In this context, a systematic study employing such neutron and proton halo nuclei, is being carried out using heavy ion research facility at IMP, Lanzhou. We have investigated elastic scattering at well above the Coulomb barrier energy with 10Be, 11C, 12N and 13O. The secondary beams of radioactive isotopes were produced by the fragmentation of (60 MeV/nucleon) 16O primary beam on a 3000 μm Be target and separated by RIBLL. The energies of the secondary beams, at the physical target, were 296 MeV for 13O; 246 MeV for 12N; and 173 MeV for 11C. The scattered particles were detected by four sets of ΔE-E detector telescopes. A Monte Carlo simulation is performed to evaluate the absolute differential cross sections. In this talk, I would discuss some ongoing and recently carried out research work at HIRFL-RIBLL. More specifically, the results of the elastic scattering with 10Be, 11C, 12N and 13O projectile from the natPb target nuclei will be addressed. (author)
