Use of fixed air samplers to identify sources of intake - 043

  • 1. Los Alamos National Laboratory, P.O. Box 1663, MS E503, Los Alamos, NM 87545 (United States)

Description

An incident that occurred June 2004 was indicated by a single elevated fixed head air sample (FHAS) filter and concluded with three intakes originally reported > 7 rem CEDE. There were no personnel contamination and/or field indicators. In addition, frequent workers did not have intakes. However, workers with the Pu-238 doses were mainly involved in Pu-239 operations. A study was performed to review all areas with a Pu-238 history using the sum of the daily and weekly FHAS filter results for 2004. The study included 23 laboratories and over 50,000 filters. Calculations include the total DAC-hrs for each room for each week. This presentation discusses the findings of the FHAS review. (authors)
