Description

Water electrolysis using PEM/AEM membrane is one of the promising technologies for Hydrogen (H2) production. We have developed electrocatalysts like Pd/CNT, Pd/N doped CNTs, Pd/P doped-CNPs, Pd/Phosphorus doped Graphene, Pd/PN-CNPs, Pd/B doped CNPs and Pd/Boron doped Graphene, etc using in-house prepared carbon supports like carbon nano tubes (prepared in house Chemical Vapour Deposition (CVD) Reactor), graphene and biochar. Membrane electrode assemblies (MEAs) with PEM/AEM membranes of 1 cm2, 10 cm2, 25 cm2, 50 cm2 have been developed and cells were fabricated and a prototype PEM, AEM and alkali electrolysers were installed in present lab. In alkaline water electrolyzer, we have also prepared and studied different polymer coated (PSF-PVP, PSF-PVP-ZrO2, PSFPVP-TiO2, PSF-BaSO4, PSF-BaSO4-ZrO2 and PSF-N-CNT's, etc.) membranes. A 50 cm2, 5 cell stack fitted with Titanium plates as current collectors and AEM membrane is under study. A current-voltage data at varying temperatures from the prototypes developed is presented here. Maximum hydrogen production capacity of 600 ml/min is reported from the semi-pilot study on PEM electrolyzer. (author)
