Development of monitoring method for the work function on the converter surface in a negative ion source plasma

Description
A monitoring method of surface work function on a converter of a negative ion source is developed by measuring photoelectron emission induced by laser irradiation. Negative ions self-extracted are compared with the photoelectron current for hydrogen and helium discharges. The photoelectron current induced by the Ar+ laser gives overall behavior of the change in the cesium coverage, and the work function. The dye laser is used to confirm the region of the work function minimum. (author)
