Interaction of radionuclides with solid phase in the modelling of migration of radionuclides in surface waters

Description

No realistic prediction on the transport and behaviour of radionuclides in surface waters can be made without proper consideration of the interaction of radionuclides with surface water solids. Description of the interaction in existing transport models is inadequate for exact evaluation of the impact of nuclear accidents on surface waters. This is partially due to an imperfect knowledge of the mechanisms and laws of the interaction. Consequently, these topics deserve further studies. New ways of description of the interaction should be sought as well as an improved inclusion of the interaction into transport models, while proper compromise between complexity of the model and its accuracy should be made
