The detection of outside corrosion defects of pipelines by electromagnetic means

Description

Different electro-magnetic methods are investigated for the purpose of pipeline-inspection. The detection of corrosion induced cracks and pits within the tube wall and the outside of the tube including their location parameters measured from the inside of the tube are of main interest. Measurements on the basis of conventional eddy-current methods and flux-method are compared with the remote field eddy-current method with respect of the detectivity of artificial defects. And finally because of the different constraints a possible but limited implementation of such a vehicle is discussed. (orig.)

Abstract (German)

Fuer die Zwecke der Pipeline-Ueberwachung werden elektro-magnetische Mess-Methoden mit der Zielvorstellung untersucht, riss- und lochartige Materialfehler in der Wandung und an der aussenseitigen Oberflaeche des Rohres einschliesslich ihrer Ortskoordinaten zu detektieren, wobei die Mess-Anordnung im Innern des Rohres vorangetrieben wird. Streufluss-, Remanenz- und Fernfeld-Wirbelstrom-Messungen werden hinsichtlich der Detektierbarkeit von kuenstlichen Fehlern miteinander verglichen und damit ihre Einsatzgrenzen fuer die obige Aufgabenstellung behandelt.
