The role of structural features in heterogeneous catalytic oxidation of H2 on TiO2:MoO3 nanocomposites

Highlights: • H2 adsorption and oxidation on TiO2:MoO3 nanocomposites were investigated. • H2 adsorption takes place on (Mo-O)5+ and [(MoO)3+-(O2−)3] centers. • H2 oxidation occurs by MoO3 lattice oxygen and adsorbed O2− species. • TiO2:MoO3 composite is a prospective gas sensing material for H2 selective detection. -- Abstract: TiO2:MoO3 nanocomposites with MoO3 content in the range of 0.1–10 mol.% were synthesized using sol-gel technology. The role of the structural peculiarities of TiO2:MoO3 composite in hydrogen adsorption and catalytic oxidation was discussed. Possibility of the selective oxidation of hydrogen in the presence of methane in the atmosphere was demonstrated.
