30 years of monitoring of environmental radioactivity in the Federal Republic of Germany

Description
This lecture deals not only with the 30-years history of the establishment of an effective network of measurement and control stations in accordance with the federal principles of Germany but also with the changes in monitoring tasks made in the past for practical and political reasons. From monitoring the effects of fallout so important for the protection of the population in the fifties and sixties, these tasks later changed to the monitoring of the vicinity around nuclear power plants. It is made clear that progress in the development of nuclear engineering required - and will continue to require in the future - a continuous adaptation of the monitoring programs in the measurement and control stations. For some years, increased attention has been paid not only to man-made radioactivity but also to the natural radioactivity in our environment. (orig./PW)

Nicht nur die 30jaehrige Geschichte des Aufbaus eines effektiven Messstellen- und Leitstellennetzes, das nach den foederalistischen Prinzipien der Bundesrepublik organisiert ist, ist Gegenstand dieses Vortrages, sondern auch die in der Vergangenheit aus sachlichen und politischen Gesichtspunkten vollzogenen Wandlungen bei den Ueberwachungsaufgaben. Diese haben sich von der in den 50er und 60er Jahren fuer den Bevoelkerungsschutz wichtigen Kontrolle der Auswirkungen des Fallouts von Kernexplosionen spaeter mehr auf die Umgebungsueberwachung kerntechnischer Anlagen verlagert. Es wird dargelegt, dass die Fortschritte in der Entwicklung der Kerntechnik eine staendige Anpassung der Ueberwachungsprogramme der Messstellen und Leitstellen erforderten und auch kuenftig erfordern. Seit einigen Jahren findet neben der kuenstlichen Radioaktivitaet auch die natuerliche Radioaktivitaet in unseren Umweltmedien verstaerkt Beachtung. (orig./PW)Additional details
