Effects of solar eclipses in the outer ionosphere

Description

According to the measurements made on board the ''Intercosmos-19'' satellite the variations in the concentration and temperature of electrons in the outer ionosphere during solar eclipses on February 16, and August 10, 1980, which passed through equatorial latitudes, are presented. In shadow region the greatest decreases in electron concentration were observed near the F layer maximum. With an increase in the altitude the perturbation amplitude decreases. The temperature of electrons at altitudes 600-700 km during the eclipses remains stable. In unperturbed day-time conditions in the Pacific Ocean region stable longitudinal variations in equatorial anomaly are pointed out
