Study of Tb3+ luminescence in the fluoride LiNaY2F8

Description
We report on the results of Tb3+ fluorescence measurements performed on a new phase LiNaY2-xTbxF8. The processus of cross relaxation has been observed between the 5D3 and 5D4 levels, and is perfectly predicted by the Inokuti and Hirayama model in the case of a dipolar interaction, leading to a critical distance of 11 A. Moreover, for highest Tb3+ contents, the fluorescence quenching of the 5D4 emission is attributed to transfers to non radiative traps. 20 refs

Nous exposons les resultats des mesures de la fluorescence de l'ion Tb3+ dans une phase nouvelle LiNaY2-xTbxF8. Un processus de relaxation croisee 5D3-5D4 est observe, et parfaitement decrit par le modele de Inokuti et Hirayama pour une interaction dipole-dipole, ce qui conduit a une distance critique de transfert de 11 A. De plus, pour les concentrations les plus elevees en terbium, l'extinction de l'emission de la fluorescence issue du premier etat excite 5D4 est attribuee a des transferts vers des centres non radiatifsAdditional details
