Characteristics of the two-step ion accelerator with an anode layer

Description

A construction of a ring two-step bismuth accelerator with an anode layer is described. Results of experimental investigation of the accelerator parameters are presented. At high accelerating voltages (Vsub(y) > 2 keV) an optimal accelerator regime, where current of Isub(y) accelerating stage is close to ion current, is observed. For this regime well formed ion beams with current from 2 to approximately 15 A are produced; acceleration efficiency is approximately 0.8. At decreasing Vsub(y) ion beam formation deterioration and sometimes sharp transition from accelerator regime to anomalous are observed, where Isub(y) can considerably exceed the working agent rate. Effect of the first (charge) accelerator stage and a magnetic field value on the parameters is considered. Operating range of charge voltage depends on Vsub(y) value and accelerated ion current and has the limits from 100 to 500 B
