Dose reduction to rectal wall in carcinoma prostate using three dimensional conformal planning

Description

Locally advanced carcinoma prostate is treated by radical radiation therapy with precise treatment planning to deliver high dose to the gross tumor volume with margins for prostate and minimal dose to the organs at risk, especially the rectal wall. Tolerance in the colorectal regions is considered higher, but highly volume dependent. One third of the rectum when exposed to 60-70 Gy will result in less than 5% complication. The present study covers three dimensional conformal planning with an aim to calculate volume and reduce the dose to the rectal wall to the reported acceptable tolerance limits by individualized shield design by 3D TPS
