A Holistic Approach to Protection and Safety

Natural Ecosystems Undergo Inherent Fluctuations and Changes that are Related to Physical, Geological, Biological and other Natural Processes Associated with the Cycles of Life and the Earth. In other words, the effects of human activities must be evaluated in the context of the 'baseline' processes that are inherent to and imposed on natural ecosystems. The IAEA has established ahierarchy of Safety Standards, consisting of a set of ''Safety Fundamentals'' at the highest level, followed by ''Requirements'', then recommendations or ''guidance''. Human activities involving the use of radiation and radioactive substances can cause radiation exposure to people and the environment.
