On magnetic effects of chromospheric flares and electric field in the high-latitudinal ionosphere

  • 1. Leningradskij Gosudarstvennyj Univ. (USSR)

Description

Electric fields were investigated in a high-latitude ionosphere with the aid of crochet-type disturbances. It was shown that data on the disturbances on meridional chains of high-latitude stations make it possible tu study the fine structure in meridional distirbution of auroral electric fields. Examined is the mechanism of generation of an electric field in morning and evening sectors of the auroral zone as a result of the ionospheric dynamo. It is inferred that the action of the ionospheric dynamo can substantially inhibit the magnetospheric convection in force tubes related to the area of high conductivity of the ionosphere. This circumstance results in the weakness of magnetic disturbances during the day hours, the particularities of the day zero point Ssub(q)-variations and the asymmetry of the West and the East electric jets with respect to the midday-midnight meridian
