Particle production, chemical equilibrium, and the quasiergodic hypothesis in high energy collisions

Description
Starting from kinetic theory, it is shown that particles heavier than the pion are not produced in chemical equilibrium. A new theory based on the degree of the reaction is then formulated. Pion induced reactions, following pion production from individual nucleon-nucleon collisions give the main mechanism for the production of strange particles, such as K+'s. ''Subthreshold'' production is a natural consequence of the theory
