Spectroscopic observations of galactic nebulae and galaxies with the imaging photon counting system (IPCS)

Description
We present a recent spectrophotometric study of some galactic gaseous nebulae and galaxies made using the image photon counting techniques (IPCS) developed at the Laboratoire d'Astronomie Spatiale (L.A.S.), coupled to the Pellet-Deharveng spectrograph attached at the Cassegrain focus of the 193 cm telescope of the Haute Provence Observatory. From the examination of the spectra obtained, it turns out that the IPCS performance is very useful in the observation of low surface brightness nebulae and in the detection of faint emission lines. The physical parameters (electron density, relative ionic abundance for HeI) derived from the observed line intensity ratios, as well as the radial velocities, are in rather good agreement with previous investigations.
