Contribution on the study of normal salivary glands by scintigraphy

Description

The topographic, morphological, dimensional and functional aspects of the normal salivary glands have been studied by the scintigraphic techniques with 99Tc. The mean values of the areas of the scintigraphic projection in cm2, for parotid glands are 7.34 for the right and 7.80 for the left one; for submandibulars, 4.43 for the right and 4.46 for the left one. Percentual mean values of uptake of the injected dose by the parotid glands are: 0.32% for the right and 0.30% for the left one; for the submandibulars, 0.29% for both sides. Concerning position, the superior third of the parotid gland was found in 97% of the cases, at the level of the external hearing meatus, with the major axis in parallel with the ascending branch of the mandibula

Abstract (Portuguese)

Estudam-se, atraves da cintigrafia obtida com o tecnecio, os aspectos topograficos, morfologicos, dimensionais e funcionais das glandulas salivares normais. Os valores em cm2 das glandulas parotidas sao de 7,34 para a direita e 7,80 para a esquerda, e para as glandulas submandibulares de 4,43 para a direita e 4,46 para a esquerda. A percentagem de captacao da dose injetada e, para as glandulas parotidas, 0,32% para a direita e 0,30% para a esquerda; e para as glandulas submandibulares, 0,20 para ambos os lados. A projecao mais frequente e a elitica, com 74,0% para as parotidas e 64,0% para as submandibulares. Quanto a posicao das glandulas parotidas, a mais frequente e aquela cujo seu terco superior se acha na altura do meato auditivo externo, com grande eixo paralelo ao ramo ascendente da mandibula, como media de 97,0%, enquanto que para as glandulas submandibulares a posicao mais frequente e a de limites anteriores simetricos em relacao ao centro do mento e com grande eixo paralelo ao ramo horizontal da mandibula, com media de 41,0%
