Spectrophotometric determination of trace amounts of Molybdenum (VI) using salicylaldehyde acetoacetic acid hydrazone

Description

A simple, sensitive and accurate spectrophotometric method was proposed for the micro determination of Molybdenum (VI) using salicylaldehyde acetoacetic acid hydrazone (SAAH) as a reagent. The method was based on the formation of 1:2 complex between the Molybdenum (VI) and SAAH. The optimum conditions for the determination were established. The Beer's law was applicable in the range 0.097 to 0.968 μg/ml. The molar absorption coefficient, Sandell's sensitivity and stability constant (β) of the complex were found to be 160.00 x 103 L mol-1cm-1, 5.998 x 10-4 mg cm-2 and 1.425 x 1010 respectively. The influence of interferences on the proposed method was studied and presented. The method was successfully applied for the determination of synthetic mixtures and alloys containing Molybdenum (VI).
