What to do with neutrons in radiotherapy: a suggestion

Creators

  • 1. Mount Vernon Hospital, Northwood (UK). Gray Lab.

Description

Enough is known about the radiobiology of fast neutron beams from cyclotrons or D-T generators to be able to make some suggestions about their future use in modified fractionation schedules. This letter explore a possible therapeutic benefit for the treatment of tumours which contain rapidly proliferating clonogenic cells. These points are made strictly from a radiobiological and therapeutic point of view, to improve local control without additional late complications. However, there would also be advantages from the economic and convenience points of view as well in using shorter overall times. 10 refs
