Novel view of the nature of the chemical- and phase-composition modifications in lithium hydridoaluminates LiAlH4 and Li3AlH6 on heating

Description
Thermal transformations of lithium hydroaluminates LiAlH4 and Li3AlH6 have been studied. Experimental proofs of metastable melting preceding LiAlH4 decomposition are presented. A new concept of Li3AlH6 formation mechanism during LiAlH4 heating, as a restructuring of tetrahedral surrounding of aluminium atom in molten LiAlH4 into octahedral one with isolation of 2/3 of aluminium and half of hydrogen, is made. 23 refs.; 4 figs.; 2 tabs
