Screening of the field of a static charge in an anisotropic plasma

  • 1. P. N. Lebedev Physics Institute, Academy of Sciences of the USSR, Moscow

Description

In general, the electric potential of a static charge in an anisotropic plasma is not determined by the static longitudinal dielectric constant of the plasma. An expression is derived for the potential of a static charge which contains, in addition to a Debye term, an unscreened term which falls off with distance by a power law. The examples of a current-carrying plasma and of a plasma in a strong, quantizing magnetic field are discussed
