The experimental determination of the Weinberg angle in the deep inelastic semileptonic neutrino-nucleon scattering with high accuracy
Description
With the detector of the CDHS Collaboration the deep inelastic neutrino scattering on an iron target was studied in the 160-GeV/c neutrino beam at CERN. The ratios of the cross section of the neutral current and the charged current of neutrinos and antineutrinos were measured with high statistics. The results are R=0.3072±0.0025(stat.)±0.0020(syst.) for neutrinos and R=0.382±0.015(stat.)±0.025(syst.) for antineutrinos. From Rν in the framework of the description of the experiment by the standard model of the electroweak interactions the Weinberg angle was calculated: sin2θW=0.225±0.005(exp.)±0.005(theo.). This determination depends sensitively on the mass of the charm quark. The result is valid for a mass of 1.5 GeV/c2. (orig./HSI)

Mit dem Detektor der CDHS-Kollaboration wurde die tiefinelastische Neutrinostreuung an einem Eisentarget im 160 GeV/c Neutrinostrahl am CERN untersucht. Die Verhaeltnisse der Wirkungsquerschnitte des neutralen Stromes und des geladenen Stromes von Neutrinos und Antineutrinos wurden mit hoher Statistik gemessen. Die Ergebnisse sind: R=0.3072±0.0025(stat.)±0.0020(syst.) fuer Neutrinos und R=0.382±0.015(stat.)±0.025(syst.) fuer Antineutrinos. Aus Rν wurde im Rahmen der Beschreibung des Experimentes durch das Standardmodell der elektroschwachen Wechselwirkung der Weinbergwinkel berechnet: sin2θW=0.225±0.005(exp.)±0.005(theo.). Diese Bestimmung haengt empfindlich von der Masse des Charmquarks ab. Das Ergebnis gilt fuer eine Masse von 1.5 GeV/c2. (orig./HSI)Additional details
