Description
We show that Cherenkov light has an important role in determining the width of shower light images, as measured in the EAS experiments using fluorescence technique. Its role is dominant below shower maximum. This conclusion is based on numerical calculations using universality of electron distributions (energy, angle and lateral distance) in different showers.
