Methane Number Sensor Optimises Gas engine Operation

The methane number plays the same role for gas engines as the octane number plays for petrol engines. This paper discusses its significance. By changing parameters, mainly ignition time and engine load, a gas engine can be adjusted to respond adequately to a change in methane number. But for this to be possible, information on the fuel gas used must be supplied to the engine. This can be done by using a methane number sensor developed and patented by Ruhrgas.
