The effect of some autonomic drugs on the isolated perfused heart of irradiated rat

  • 1. Vojnotehnicki Inst., Belgrade (Yugoslavia)

Description

The effect of pilocarpine and atropine on the isolated perfused heart of rat, previously irradiated with gamma rays (9 Gy), has been investigated. It has been found that the cardiovascular effects of pilocarpine are much greater in irradiated animals, than in the control ones, especially regarding to the amplitude of the heart muscle contractions. Atropine was, however, equally effective in both groups. The altered reaction of the heart muscle to pilocarpine is due, more likely, to a non-specific damage of the myocardium, than to the injury of specific heart structures. (author). 5 refs.; 3 figs
