Heavy-ion resonances
Description
This paper discusses the influence of the Coulomb barrier resonances and deals with the sharp resonances observed at low energies, particularly in collisions of 12C + 12C and 12C + 16O nuclei. The authors discuss the gross structure in quasielastic reactions, typified by the broad bumps with widths and spacings of some 4 to 5 MeV which are illustrated in the paper, and then the authors consider its fragmentation into the narrow resonances. A discussion of the qualitatively different, very broad structure seen at the highest energies is presented. Resonances are examined that appear primarily in extreme forward or backward angle data. The energy-dependent structure in fusion yields is examined and resonances in systems with Agreater than or equal to40 are discussed
