Description

The Niagara Mohawk Power Corporation, Nine Mile Point - Unit 1, stack gas monitoring system is designed to provide continuous monitoring of radioactive effluents released to the environment. The system incorporates an on-line isotopic analysis which can determine the amount of each isotope released. Sample flow is automatically controlled to track plant air effluent stack flow in order to maintain isokinetic sampling. This paper describes the sampling system flow deficiencies encountered and details the methodology used in obtaining test data, evaluating data, performing fluids analysis, hardware replacement selection, installation and final testing to overcome sample system limitations
