Lattice monopoles in the Villain model
Description
Monopoles are studied in three and four dimensional U(1) Villain models using Monte-Carlo simulation. Two different prescriptions are used to locate monopoles. The properties of the two monopole gases thus obtained are compared; in particular with respect to their long distance behaviour. In this way we attempt to determine the coupling at which the conventional definition of lattice monopoles ceases to be meaningful. (orig.)
