Long-lived states at high excitation energies in 8Be and 10B
- 1. Department of Physics, University of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania 19174
Description
A study of highly excited states in 8Be and 10B has been conducted using the 9Be(He,α) and 11B(3He,α) reactions at E(3He) = 49.3 MeV and the Berkeley magnetic spectrometer. We observe three new states in 8Be at E/sub x/ = 22.05, 22.63, and 22.98 MeV (+-0.1 MeV) with GAMMA/sub c.m./ < 0.3 MeV. In 10B we confirm the previously known states 10B* (10.85, 11.52, 12.56) and report a new state 10B* (13.49) with GAMMA/sub c.m./ = 0.3 MeV, in addition to two broader states. Comparisons are made with the analog regions in 8Li and 10Be
