Gamma spectrometric determination of radium in water samples taken from an uranium mining area

Creators

Description

Radium isotopes have been determined by low-level gamma spectrometry of barium sulphate precipitates from leaching solutions, and from waste-, river-, and fresh-water which have been collected from an uranium mine and their vicinity. It was found out that in case of a sulphate rich environment radium is fixed at solid matter and actinium is transported into the aquatic medium. Its decay to Ra-223 causes an enhanced Ra-223/Ra-226 ratio
