The role of radiation therapy in stage IIIM1 non-small cell lung cancer
Description
Radiation therapy plays an important role in the management of patients with metastatic non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). The majority of the individuals who have stage III M1 disease will require at some point in the course of the disease for relief of any one of several symptoms. Radiotherapeutic intervention does not prolong survival. The aim of therapy in these individuals is to palliate specific symptoms in an attempt to improve the quality of life. In this chapter the authors delineate the role of radiation therapy in treating the primary tumor site in the chest as well as sites of distant metastases in patients with stage III M1 lung cancer
