Baryon magnetic moments and the naive quark model
Description
Baryon magnetic moments are calculated in the non-relativistic quark model (NQM) incorporating (i) 'natural' quark mass scales for quarks, taken as one-third of the nucleon mass for u and d quarks and the strange quark mass, for the respective hyperon, and implied by the sum rules; (ii) minimal non-trivial mixing, (iii) 'mass correction' which takes into account the effect on magnetic moments due to the difference in baryon masses from those predicted by the additive quark model. Without taking any of the magnetic moments as input, we find an excellent fit to the latest data including the difficult cases of Σ+ and Ξ-, the remaining discrepancies are within 10% of the data in almost all cases.
