Spectrophotometric method for the rapid estimation of uranium in PUREX streams
Creators

Description
A rapid spectrophotometric method has been developed for estimation of uranium from Purex streams so as to effect mid-course corrections as and when needed. The absorbance of the uranium-hydrogen peroxide complex in sodium carbonate medium with EDTA as masking agent, was measured at 420 nm. It is an alternate to the existing ammonium thiocyanate method which involves handling toxic thiocyanate and has waste storage problems. The molar absorption coefficient is 660 L mole-1 cm-1 for aqueous and 460 L mole-1 cm-1 for organic systems. The R.S.D. is ± 2.02% (aq) and ± 0.53% (org). (author)
