Definition of gluon distributions in quantum chromodynamics

  • 1. Physics Department, University of Virginia, Charlottesville, Virginia 22901

Description

We show that the gluon distribution function can be given an unambiguous meaning by a ''gedanken experiment'' of deep-inelastic scattering with a graviton rather than a photon probe. We conclude that the stress-energy tensor and the ordinary flavor-carrying currents form a complete set of external probes that measure the quark, antiquark, and gluon distributions
